Establish a global renewables manufacturing base in North East Scotland.
In order to create a truly sustainable economy there needs to be some export. North east scotland already has the skills to manufacture and overcome technical challenges. What is needed is the catalyst to manufacture the products that can be export across Scotland and beyond to provide renewable energy and carbon neutral living. We cannot harvest the whole of scotlands renewables resources by focusing on one area but we can replace one industry with another and export those products to where the resources can be harnessed in exactly the same way as we harness oilfield many miles from the north east Scotland bases.
Why the contribution is important
Currently there is a narrow band of industry in the North East of Scotland that underpins the regional economy. When Oil & Gas is gone it won't just be the jobs in that industry that are affected. Many others depend on those jobs to provide their customers (shops, restaurants, entertainment industry, gyms, council workers to name just a few). Just transition can't just be about providing fresh jobs and relocation for offshore workers, it's got to be about sustaining the regional economy in the longer term

Making this transition now would hopefully prevent the expertise moving away from the area rather than waiting until it has collapsed and then trying to rebuild it.
