Lets start by being honest
1. Most public debates/conversations like this need to start with some HONEST recognition of the circumstances. It has taken us the best part of 100 years to get into this situation and getting out of it is going to COST us all and it is going to be TOUGH for us all - there isn't an easy fix.
2. No Strategy or Policy should be updated or replaced without an INDEPENDENT and OBJECTIVE assessment of how effective it's predecessor was and to what extent it DELIVERED on its PROMISES.

Why the contribution is important
1. Despite it's many flaws, the principle of the South African Truth and Reconciliation demonstrated that without recognition and acceptance of past mistakes, we continue with trying to identify the baddies while denying our own failings - fair and just change for the better is then virtually impossible.
2. How else can we avoid repeating the mistakes of history?
An OPEN and HONEST National Government lead on this is essential - other wise the narrow vested interested elbow their way to the front.
