Local Authority Solar clubs

Local Authorities need affordable energy to protect their budgets for delivering core services. Local communities need ways to beat the cost of living crisis and keep their homes warm this winter. Solar clubs (for example that in Edinburgh https://www.edinburghsolar.coop/) work by installing solar on the roofs of public buildings to generate a revenue stream for community benefits. This could be enhanced by supporting local people to allow LAs to install PV on their roofs and outbuildings and share the financial benefits of the energy that is produced.

Why the contribution is important

This will create jobs, improve energy security nationally, protect core LA budgets for frontline services, mainstream renewables and help everyone to benefit from lower energy prices.

This is daft. If a house can generate it's own ot should use it instead of using complex and energy draining transmission

But many households can't afford to install solar panels and using a cooperative model would help them to overcome the initial capital barrier
