Long term pricing structure.

Summary:
To negate the phenomenal costs householders will encounter over the next few years a longer term approach should be applied.

The vision for a net zero future includes renewable energy at scale and at an affordable price for householders. Energy companies need to take a longer term approach to pricing in order to reflect this. Some householders in my area in Scotland could be paying £10,000 a year for energy by April 2023. Regardless of income this is unsustainable for any household.

An 8 - 10 year pricing plan needs to be considered by energy companies. Energy prices will decrease as renewable generation increases and we become less reliant on oil and gas to power our homes.

This should reduce household expenditure in the short term and make budgeting much more manageable for individuals.

Why the contribution is important

Fuel poverty especially in rural areas has been at unacceptable levels for some time now. Its no over exaggeration to envision people's health failing due to being unable to heat their homes. Every possible avenue should be considered but a stable pricing structure for individuals comes first. People need to be able to budget and prepare for rising energy prices, at the moment with the cost of living crisis. National governmental support is welcome but energy companies need to meet the government and customers half-way. A longer term pricing plan would alleviate some pressure to customers.
