National Agreement for the Energy Networks Construction Sector

That the construction of the Energy Networks Construction Sector is organised and regulated under a collective working rules agreement covering all workers terms, conditions and wages.

That all client companies and subcontractor companies are required to be signatory to this agreement before they can even place tenders for work.

That all workers will be engaged through legitimate employment practices using PAYE direct employment and that any and all forms of tax avoidance schemes are barred.

That our young folks are given the opportunity to gain qualifications for life following successful completion of a Modern Apprenticeship.

Why the contribution is important

This is crucial because right now, there is no National Agreement for the Energy Networks Construction Sector and as such, there is no standardised rates of pay, terms&conditions, training or apprenticeships and workers are being exploited by being forced to use tax avoidance bogus self employment schemes!

If we are to invest in our people and our country's green infrastructure then it's high time the people building and maintaining these national assets were treated with dignity and fairness in accordance with the Scottish Government's own Fair Work Convention aspirations!

Production should be done in Scotland. There is no point in encouraging renewable energy and reduction in carbon footprint if - for example - wind turbines are made overseas and then shipped to the Scotland.

A one size fits all approach for such a diverse industry is not sensible. Individual companies and employees should be freely able to discuss and agree their terms of employment without the communication barriers and political interferance imposed by union membership.

This echos the problem in the oil industry. There needs to be a coordination of standards , training etc.
